Magdalene Laundries in Dublin (High Park Drumcondra), was a site of religious and cultural oppression against young women. To create a connection with the present, I incorporated materials from the site into my work, fragments of the old paint and plaster taken from the front gate, as well as pieces gathered from the abandoned, disused infrastructure of the former Magdalene Laundry. Through this, I explored how this history continues to exist in our collective memory.
